Ludhiana deputy commissioner Rahul Tewari held a meeting with officials of various departments and issued directions on the flood control measures needed to be taken during the monsoon season in the district.

The meeting was held at Bachat Bhawan, wherein officials from district administration, health wing, drainage department among others were present. Tewari also started a 24x7 phone line (2400394) at mini secretariat that would enable the administration to extend help in distressed areas at the time of need.

Tewari said that 16 flood-prone areas were identified, and the officials were directed to take special care of these areas.

He said Satluj covers major areas of the district, thus it was important to take care of those areas that lie along the river. Tewari directed the sub divisional magistrate (SDM) of different areas to take stock of the situation in their respective areas and take precautionary measures for the monsoon.

SDMs of Ludhiana east, Ludhiana west, Samrala and Jagraon were directed to prepare a list of flood-prone areas so that precautions could be taken beforehand.

Civil surgeon of the district was also directed that chlorine tablets should be distributed in the areas where water stagnation was a common problem.
