Eight held with heroin worth Rs. 1.75 crore

The local police claim to have recovered heroin worth Rs. 1.75 crore with the arrest of eight persons in various cases.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) Manjit Singh Dhesi said anti-narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing had arrested two persons from a checkpoint near Children Traffic Park on Monday and recovered 310gm heroin from their possession.

The accused, identified as Shiv Kumar, a resident of Pakhowal Road, and Baj Singh of Tarn Taran, have past criminal record, he added.

In a separate case, anti-narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing arrested two persons identified as Balwinder Singh Sodhi and Harpreet Singh alias Honey from near Jalandhar bypass and recovered 30 gm heroin from their possession.

Meanwhile, crime investigation agency (CIA) staff arrested Sandeep Singh of Ladhowal and Gurjeet Singh of Hambran Road and claim to have recovered 150gm narcotic powder from their possession.
In another case, the CIA staff arrested Harpreet Singh and Baljinder Singh from Salem Tabri area and recovered 30 gm heroin from their possession.

Police have booked all accused under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Dengue rampant in citywith three more cases

Three more dengue cases were confirmed in the city on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in state to 20. Three patients, a 40-year-male from Haibowal Kalan, admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), a 42-year-old female from Laddowal admitted to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and a 60-year-old male from Ferozepur, admitted to the DMCH, were tested positive for dengue fever.
