An elderly woman was found murdered in her room at Gobindpura on the Daba road on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Narinder Kaur, 70. She lived alone in the room and her husband died around three years ago.

According to the police, the woman has been strangulated to death by unidentified murderers. The police have initiated an investigation and also questioned her neighbours and tenants. As the woman's room was messed, the police suspect that the murderers must have robbed of cash, jewellery and other valuables from the house.

Woman's nephew Sukhwinder Singh of Amritsar used to take care for her. He used to visit her every fortnight. She lived on the upper portion of the house while she has given the lower portion on rent.

According to inspector Gurbtej Singh, SHO of the Focal Point police station, tenants saw the body first when they went to her room in the evening as they did not see her throughout the day.

The inspector said the murderers have strangulated her to death with the intention of robbery. We also came to know that she had a property dispute with some relative.

"We have informed Sukhwinder Singh about her death and are waiting for him to know about the cash or valuables robbed by the miscreants. We have questioned tenants and neighbours but nobody has seen anyone coming or going out of the house," the SHO said.
