The state excise and taxation department on Saturday fetched Rs. 710 crore from the draw of lots of over 700 liquor vends in Ludhiana district.
There are a total of 60 zones in the rural and urban areas of Ludhiana district, and each zone has at least 12 liquor vends.
During the proceedings, eight zones each were won by Singla and Manak Rekhi groups.
The draw of lots, which started at Harsheela Resorts on Ferozepur Road on Saturday morning and continued till afternoon, was attended by hundreds of short-listed applicants.
Deputy excise taxation commissioner (DETC) Amrit Kaur Gill, assistant commissioners Rajwinder Kaur and Darbara Singh carried out the draw of lots.
The number of zones this year was increased from 44 to 60, but there was no increase in total number of liquor vends. Earlier a group consisted of 22 vends.
The department received a total of 10,399 applications against 10,382 applications last year. The last date for filing applications was March 14.
Among the successful applicants were Malhotra group that got five zone, Chhabra group and Ponty Chadha group got three and two zones respectively.
