Principal Charanjit Kaur Mahal met Panjab University vice-chancellor Arun Grover on Friday, where it was decided that the matter would again be discussed in the next syndicate meeting schedule to be held on March 15.

Around 20 students of BCA, BA B Com were not being allowed to appear in their final year exams, as they were yet to clear their 1st year compartment paper.

According to PU norms, if a student is unable to clear his/her compartment exam consecutively, he/she should not be admitted to the next year. But authorities at Guru Nanak Girls College failed to apprise students that they cannot appear in the final year exams as they were unable to clear the compartment exams of the first year.

Taking to HT, MLA Simarjit Bains said, "If college authorities can take an undertaking from students, then they must be aware that this is a clear violation of PU calendar. Hence in the next syndicate meeting the authorities should take a final call as final exams will commence from the next month. They must allow students to sit for the final year exams."

PU syndicate and senate member Harpreet Singh Dua said, "The matter was discussed in the PU syndicate meeting on March 5 and it was decided that a penalty will be imposed on college authorities so that no college can violate rules and regulation of the PU calendar.

Meanwhile, the final decision will be taken in the next syndicate meeting on March 15."
