A Frequency Modulated (FM) radio station will be launched in Ludhiana soon.

Information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari said this while talking to mediapersons here on Friday evening. He was attending a felicitation programme of the Knitwear club. He said two acres of land will be required for installation of the FM radio station and appealed local MLAs and the industrialists to arrange land so that the proposal can be processed further.

Tewari said, “The auction of 839 FM radio stations in 294 cities of the country will be completed within the next six months.”

He said that the opening of FM radio station here would not only provide information and entertainment to city residents and those in the surrounding areas but will also create a lot of employment opportunities for the local youth.

Earlier, a delegation of Knitwear Club honoured Tewari for having facilitated abolition of central excise duty on branded ready-made garments, which they said would not only benefit city based hosiery units but ready-made garment industries across the country. Tewari also pointed out that the state was lagging far behind than other states of the country due to wrong economic policies pursued by the government of Punjab.
