Grenades recovered from pond in Ludhiana

Panic gripped Sidhwan Khurd village near Jagraon, which falls on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur highway in Punjab on Thursday, with the recovery of 14 hand grenades and 33 cartridges of AK-47 rifles from a pond during cleaning operations.


A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jagraon City, Naveen Kumar, reached the spot, sealed the area and took the ammunition into its custody.

"The ammunition, like hand grenades and AK 47 was found during the cleaning of the pond.

We have sealed the whole area and called the bomb-disposal squad.

An investigation is underway to establish how these grenades and cartridges reached here," Kumar said.

He confirmed that 14 hand grenades and 33 cartridges of AK-47 rifle were found in the village pond.

The ammunitions were recovered while some workers hired under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi
National Rural Employment Gurantee Act) Scheme were cleaning the Investigations to reach the root of the matter are underway.

800 cartons of illicit liquor seized from truck

The Sadar Police seized 800 cartons of illicit liquor, worth `20 lakh, from a truck on Sunday. The driver of the truck, which was heading towards Ajitwal in Moga, failed to produce documents for the liquor, following which the police booked him under section 61/1/14 of the Excise Act.
