Grocery store owner held with habit-forming drugs

The anti-narcotic and anti-liquor smuggling wing of the Ludhiana police commissionerate arrested a grocery store owner after recovering habit-forming drugs from his possession on late Thursday night.
The police recovered 24,000 sedative pills, 25 bottles of syrup and 700 capsules from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Dimpy Bajad (32) of New Model Town of Sahnewal. He runs a grocery store, Dimpy Karyana Store, at Kanganwal road.


The accused was carrying the drugs in his car. The police also confiscated his car.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 15, 61, 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act at Sahnewal police station.

Giving details about the arrest, sub-inspector Harbans Singh, incharge, anti-narcotic and anti-liquor smuggling wing, said ASI Tarsem Singh, along with a police party, set up a checkpoint at Kanganwal road on late Thursday night. Meanwhile, the accused approached the checkpoint in a car. On being stopped and frisked, the police recovered a cache of drugs from his car.

Sub-inspector Singh said the accused admitted that he had been selling the drugs from his shop for the past two years.

“The accused possesses criminal record. Cases of smuggling of illicit liquor were registered against him in the past,” said the sub-inspector.
