A meeting of national co-ordination committee of independent schools of CBSE and ICSE was organised by the Association of Private Unaided Schools of Punjab on the premises of Green Land Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar Byepass, on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by the delegates from Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. The focus of the meeting was the grave problem faced by the independent unaided schools of India.

Rajesh Rudra, president of private unaided schools of Punjab said when maintaining quality education in schools had become a herculean task with pressure from local government, central government, judiciary and public, RTI and RTE had come as a bolt from the blue and were making matters worse.

SK Bhattacharya, president action committee and convener of the national co-ordination committee of association discussed the problems faced by the private unaided schools all over India.

He said private schools had become a soft target for both public and the government. It was discussed in the meeting that government must look into the matter and help schools recover from financial burden, especially heavy taxes and should provide electricity at subsidised rates.

The schools also opposed the policy of accreditation by CBSE as they said the affiliation was provided only after inspection of schools. For accreditation to spend hefty money after five years was only an extra burden on schools. It was discussed that Punjab government had not adopted the RTE in true spirit, thus making it difficult for schools to follow the same.

Educationist Sunil Aggarwal; senior vice-president of action committee, SL Jain and management committee members of the schools from Ludhiana also participated in the meeting.
