It is not only the city residents who are not heard by the officials of municipal corporation (MC); even the mayor and MC commissioner are in a tizzy over the officials not paying heed to their directions.

There have been several cases where the official letters of mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MC commissioner Rakesh Kumar Verma were not replied to or acted upon by MC officials.

A recent example is an inquiry report that was marked regarding the discrepancies in renovation work of Nehru Planetarium near the mayor's camp office.

Gohalwaria had marked an inquiry to Verma on April 26. The inquiry report was supposed to be submitted in a week's time. However, almost two months later, the report is yet to arrive at mayor's office.

Gohalwaria said, “The lower-rung officials to whom the inquiry was marked have not paid heed to the commissioner. Verma told me that the report was not being submitted by the lower officials to him.”
This reflects Gohalwaria's and Verma's helplessness in front of their officials, who refuse to listen to them.

The gravity of situation is evident from the fact that the officials do not even respond to the letters by the mayor.

Gohalwaria had last month shot off letters to the MC officials, asking them to clean the storm sewer and take other precautionary measures before the onset of monsoon. However, the officials did not respond to the letters and nothing was done that left the city inundated after just a day's rain.

After the pre-monsoon showers had lashed the city, Gohalwaria had told HT, “I had written to the officials to be prepared for the rains before the onset of monsoon. It seems that steps were not taken to take care of the situation arising out of rains in the city.”

“Action would be taken against those who do not comply with the orders and letters,” Gohalwaria said.
