A labourer who was held captive for not returning Rs. 3,000 ended his life by hanging himself in the room where he was illegally confined.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Dayal, 25, of Sardar Nagar.
Salem Tabri police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against two persons and arrested them. The accused have been identified as Vinay Yadav alias Pinku and Onkar of Farid Nagar of Salem Tabri.
Dharmatma, brother of the deceased, said his brother Ram Dayal had borrowed Rs. 3,000 from the accused a few days ago, but failed to return in time.
According to Dharmatma, Vinay Yadav came to call Ram Dayal from their home on Thursday. He took Ram Dayal to his home, where Onkar was already present.
The duo allegedly bullied Ram Dayal for not returning the debt and illegally confined him in a room. They allegedly threatened Ram Dayal that they would let him go only if he or his kin would return their money.
Meanwhile, Ram Dayal removed ropes of a bunk, of which he made a loop and hanged self from a hook in the ceiling.
Dharmatma said, people of the area have sounded him as they noticed Ram Dayal has committed suicide.
SHO Salem Tabri police station inspector Dharampal said the police arrested the accused on Friday.
This is second such incident in the past 12 days. Earlier, a shopkeeper had not only beaten his neighbour but also confined him in a room over monitory issue on November 12.
The carpenter owed Rs. 10,000 to the shopkeeper but had failed to return in given time.
The Salem Tabri police opened the lock of the door and rescued the carpenter after six days of illegal confinement when someone from the area sounded the police about the matter.
