Minority council member Bablu Qureshi fainted outside the police commissioner's office on Thursday during a protest staged by kin of Mohammad Khurshid, who died after allegedly being harassed by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Almuddin Saifi.

Qureshi was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), following which his supporters gathered there and raised slogans against Saifi.

Qureshi, who had announced hunger strike on Tuesday demanding Saifi's arrest, had ended the fast on Wednesday after the police officers assured them of stern action against the accused.

He said when the police officers failed to keep their word, they decided to hold a protest outside the police commissioner's office. Later, former health minister Satpal Gosain also met police commissioner over the issue following which the latter formed a team to investigate the matter.

The Basti Jodhewal police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against Almuddin Saifi on Tuesday after Mohammad Khurshid had died of a cardiac arrest following the alleged threats and demand of extortion money by Saifi and his two accomplices.
