The much-delayed and needed railway over-bridge being constructed in place of Lakkar Pul, the footbridge that used to connect the new and old parts of the city, is likely to be completed by November, said union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari in a press release issued here on Friday.

Tewari said that railways minister Mallikarjun Kharge informed him about this in a letter. Tewari said he had sought the railway minister's intervention for the completion of the overbridge, which is expected to reduce traffic bottlenecks in the city once it is completed and opened to traffic.

The overbridge has been hanging fire for the past 12 years; its construction has been delayed as the approach roads for it were to be constructed by the state government and Ludhiana municipal corporation. The railways were to construct the overbridge - including two spans, one straight and another curved.

Tewari said that while work on the straight span was expected to be completed by October, the curved span will likely be completed by November. "The overbridge will be operational by that time," he said.
