Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) will start a protest in the state against toll tax from August 11.
State party chief Kiranjit Singh Gehri said the toll tax was an unnecessary burden the people had been bearing for years.
Gehri was talking to the media after addressing a meeting of party workers at Circuit House here on Saturday.
"Businessmen pay several taxes to the government. A salaried person also pays taxes on his income, then where is the need to pay toll tax for using roads?" Gehri wondered.
He said the rates at toll tax barriers had been increasing frequently and the number of vehicles had increased in the past few years.
He said the LJP had been conducting a survey on distribution of grains and other commodities among ration-card holders and would submit the report to union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Gehri alleged that in Punjab the subsidised ration was not reaching consumers as a few depot holders sold it in the market.
