Ludhiana property dealer shoots dead woman neighbour over petty issue

A property dealer shot dead his woman neighbour over a petty issue at Guru Arjan Dev Nagar here on Wednesday night.

Sonia, 40, had gone to complain to accused Parminder Singh after he allegedly beat up her 14-year-old son Tarun. Her daughter, Chahat, who was accompanying her, fled from the spot and escaped unhurt.

The division number 7 police reached the spot and initiated investigations. According to the police, the accused was in an inebriated condition. The police have registered a murder case against him. The incident took place around 8pm.

Following an altercation between Tarun and Parminder's son, Parminder allegedly beat up Tarun, who reported the matter to his mother.

On seeing Sonia approaching him, Parminder opened fire in the air from his rifle. When Sonia reached near him the accused shot her in the face from point blank range, killing her on the spot. After that Parminder fled from the spot.

Assistant commissioner of police (east) Satish Malhotra said the police had launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
