Malaysian environmental expert interacts with PAU scientists on farm research

 Role of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in bringing green revolution in India is viewed with esteem in Malaysia. This was stated by Nayan Kanwal, chief executive editor and expert on environmental issues at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), who visited PAU on Saturday.

During his interaction with officers and senior scientists of the PAU, including director of research SS Gosal, registrar RS Sidhu, additional directors JS Dhiman,. RK Gumber and adjunct professor (research) TS Thind, Kanwal said that UPM was a bi-campus university with 4,500 postgraduate and 16,000 undergraduate students. He mentioned that UPM had 18 faculties, including that of agriculture, forestry, veterinary science and medicine.

He also showed interest in research being done at PAU on vegetables, paddy straw management, protected cultivation and bio-drainage of saline water.
 
Explaining the prioritised research programmes at PAU, Gosal said through a memorandum of understanding between PAU and UPM, possibilities of collaborative research in oil palms, food processing and human resource development could be explored.
 
Gumber said that crop improvement programmes at PAU was its strong point. Thind discussed about the recent developments in fungicides for the management of plant diseases.

Two more dengue cases spring up

Two more dengue cases were confirmed in the city on Thursday. One 25-year-old woman from Bhora village, Jalandhar Bypass, and a 30-year-old man from BRS Nagar were tested positive for dengue. Both patients are undergoing treatment at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
