Man held for rape

In yet another incident of crime against women, a sweeper allegedly raped his acquaintance in his room in the Sarabha Nagar area adjoining Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office on Saturday.


Following the statement of victim, the Sarabha Nagar police have lodged an FIR against the accused identified as Santosh Kumar. In her complaint, the 22-year-old victim said she worked as domestic help. She was in need of some money and shared her problem with the accused.

She alleged that on Saturday the accused called her on the pretext of lending money. He took her to his room, where he raped her and threatened her to keep quiet. The police have registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused.

Sub-inspector Bittan Kumar said the police have launched a manhunt the arrest of the accused, who was absconding.
