A resident of New Vishnupuri who claimed to be a victim of an armed robbery has been arrested after he confessed that the whole incident was a lie, according to the local police.

Mani Maria had contacted the police control room on July 10, informing that he had been robbed by four motorcycle-miscreants. He had alleged that the miscreants had threatened him with a sharp-edged weapon and robbed him of Rs. 4,500.

The police immediately reached the spot and investigated into the matter. Maria also claimed that he had suffered injuries on his neck and arm in the incident.

However, when assistant sub-inspector Balkar Singh investigated the matter, he found out that the robbery was concocted. He said when Maria's dressing was removed, there were no injury marks on the neck or arms.

The ASI said the complainant later confessed that he had concocted the incident as he had spent his entire salary, and had no money to give to his parents. A case has been registered under sections 420, 511, 182 and 177 of the IPC at Salem Tabri police station.

Teachers need to shape students as nation builders, says Kalam

Creativity is the key to success in the future, and primary education is where teachers can bring creativity in children at that level. A great teacher is one who will improve the level of students who are poor in studies. This was stated by former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at Satya Bharti Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Sherpur Kalan, Ludhiana, on Friday.
