In the wake of complaints against illegal constructions across the city, Ludhiana municipal corporation commissioner RK Verma has warned of strict action as per the law against those undertaking such constructions without getting building plans approved.

This action could range from demolition of the building to severe penalty from the MC, an official order said.

Verma held a meeting on Saturday with MC officials, during which he warned the assistant town planners and inspectors that they would be responsible in case any construction work without MC permission was found in their respective jurisdictions.

It has been decided that city residents desirous of taking up construction would be required to submit their documents at the Suvidha Centre and the approval would be given, if documents are in order, within seven days.

Isha Kalia, zonal commissioner of zone D and chief of building branch, had held several meetings with Verma after which the decision was taken regarding submission of required documents at the Suvidha Centre for further action.

Hindustan Times had reported last week about flouting of bye-laws at Bhadaur House, which is close to the MC headquarters.

The official order issued by the MC commissioner on Saturday said,  “This is a general appeal to all the residents of Ludhiana that nobody shall undertake any construction without getting the building plan approved. The building plan can be submitted at the Suvidha Centre at your respective zonal commissioner's office. There shall be no unnecessary delays in approving the plan and it can be done within seven days itself.”

The decision was taken after it came to light that several building in all four zones of the MC were coming up due to alleged collusion between building branch officials and owners.

Meanwhile, some illegal constructions near the MC office have so far not attracted action from the civic body. These buildings include a hotel and a shop.
