Acting on a complaint against violation of building by-laws, the municipal corporation authorities on Thursday imposed fine worth Rs. 28 lakh on owners of various buildings.
Right to information activist Rohit Sabharwal had filed a complaint with the MC authorities highlighting the violations by several building owners by not abiding by the designs approved by the authorities.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Zone D assistant town planner (ATP) Rajinder Singh said based on the complaint, MC teams inspected various buildings in Zone D and found eight that were constructed in violation of building by-laws.
"These buildings have not been constructed in accordance with the approved designs. The alterations in the approved designs invite penalty, so fine worth Rs. 28 lakh has been imposed on the owners of these buildings," Singh added.
Similarly, teams from Zone A office also inspected buildings in their area and found six buildings violating building by-laws.
Zone A ATP Monica Anand said the inspections were done on the basis of a telephonic complaint.
However the amount of penalty would be decided at a later stage after serving the owners show-cause notices.
