In sheer display of strength, MLA Dhillon held a meeting with several councillors and area residents against Grewal at Basti Jodhewal on Saturday.

Meanwhile, as Grewal's supporters came to know of the meeting, they thronged the Basti Jodhewal Chowk and burnt an effigy of the MLA and also smashed clay pots.

Grewal and his supporter and independent councillor from ward number 7, Gurpreet Singh Gora, have been lodged at Ludhiana central jail for attempt to murder following the June 23 clash between Grewal and Dhillon's supporters, which had left 10 persons injured.

During the meeting held at the MLA's office, councillors from different wards and locals condemned the clash and criticised Grewal and his supporters for it.

While addressing the meeting, MLA Dhillon said he had met chief minister Parkash Singh Badal after the incident and brought the matter to his notice.

Dhillon said he would not tolerate any interference of any person in the development work in his area. He also mentioned that carpeting of the road in New Shakti Nagar was his initiative and councillor Grewal, along with his supporters, created ruckus and opened assault on his party workers.

The meeting was attended by councillors Pal Singh Grewal, Sukhdev Singh Gill, Narinder Kaur Malhi, Sarabjit Laddi and a large number of locals.

On the other hand, Grewal's supporters burnt the effigy of MLA Dhillon and raised slogans against him. They said the police had been working under pressure of SAD leaders and harassing them by implicating them in a fake case.
