Panic gripped the city residents after they heard a loud blast-like sound at around 4 pm on Tuesday.Soon after, police control room and fire brigade offices were flooded with phones calls as people wanted to know the reason behind the sound.

There were rumours that there was a blast at the railway station. Others were talking about explosion at Aarti Chowk, Pakhowal Road, Model Town etc.The PCR received more than 400 calls with regard to enquiry about the blast.

The police made use of social media sites to clarify that the loud sound was probably a thunderclap, which was heard in many parts of Ludhiana.A similar 'blast' was heard on August 6 last year, leading to chaos.
