The Namdharis on hunger strike for the unity of their sect blocked traffic on Sunday for a few minutes here, as the district administration delayed sending doctors to examine the fasting men.

After assurance from police about health examination, Namdhari Panthak Ekta Action Committee lifted its blockade. A team from the health department, later, did check-up fasting Namdharis Harbinder Singh and Parveen Kaur. Their condition was stable, said Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital senior medical officer Dr RK Karkara.

On Sunday, the hunger strike entered third day. The Namdharis seek permission from district administration for faction leader Thakur Dalip Singh and his followers to enter the gurdwara at sect headquarters Bhaini Sahib. The supporters of Thakur Dalip Singh have accused some rivals of amassing property in a wrong manner.

“When no doctor was sent to us, we had to resort to blockade,” said Namdhari Panthak Ekta Action Committee general secretary Harvinder Singh, adding: “We will remain on hunger strike until our demands are met.”
