Around three months after a bride died following an acid attack, an 18-year-old girl was attacked with acid by her three neighbours at Bhattiyan village in Khanna on Sunday.

The victim, Sanju Kumari alias Pinky, who suffered burns on her face, neck and arm, was rushed to a local government hospital from where she was referred to Rajendra Hospital, Patiala.

The accused, who have been identified as Raju, Dharminder and Pappu, managed to flee after the incident.
They have been booked for throwing acid on the girl with the intention to kill her.

In his complaint, the victim’s father, Shiv Kumar, who is employed with the food and supply department, alleged that Sanju was cooking dinner when their three neighbours barged into their house with a bottle in their hand, and threw acid on his daughter’s face, before fleeing.

The victim and her mother screamed for help, following which neighbours huddled there and rushed Sanju to the civil hospital.

Kumar said the trio had recently filed a false police complaint against his son. But, they later reached a compromise. However, they continued to possess grudges against his family.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Balwinder Singh Sekhon said efforts were on to arrest the accused.

“The girl has suffered burns on the face, below the eyes, and right arm. She is stable and under constant observation,” said Dr VK Sharda, medical superintendent at Rajendra hospital.
