The body of a newborn girl was found on the banks of Buddha Nullah on Wednesday. A passerby spotted the body lying wrapped in a white cloth near the vegetable market along the nullah and sounded the police, who reached the spot and initiated investigation.

Police suspect that the body was dumped immediately after birth, and might have been thrown in another area and floated to this part.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Amrik Singh Powar said the body, which was found stuck in a pillar, had been sent to the civil hospital for examination and a case had been registered at Salem Tabri police station.
