One injured as gangs slug it out in Pritam Nagar

Rivalry between two gangs is spilling on to the roads. Gaurav of Sachin-Mohini gang and his accomplices opened fire at Lakhwinder Singh Jassa and his brother Sukhwinder Singh Sukha of Chhota Lalla gang in Pritam Nagar area of Haibowal late on Saturday.

In the incident, Sukha (27) took three bullets in his stomach. He has been admitted to DMC Hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical. The Division 4 police have registered a case against Gaurav and his four unidentified accomplices under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Lakhwinder told the police that on Saturday night, he was standing outside his house, when Gaurav, along with his four accomplices, arrived there in a car and opened fire on him. Lakhwinder, however, escaped unhurt.

The accused fled from the scene, but opened fire at Lakhwinder's brother Sukhwinder Singh Sukha in Pritam Nagar area.

Lakhwinder told to police that Goru Bachha of Sachin-Mohini gang had opened fire at him in 2011 and the case was pending in the court. He said the accused didn't want him to record his statement in the court.

ASI Harjit Singh of Division 4 police station said a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
Clashes between members of the Chhota Lalla and Sachin-Mohini gangs have become a routine in the city.

On September 30, a clash took place in Tagore Nagar during which fire arms were used. The police had booked Gurjot singh, Pinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, Pindri and several others on the statement of Gurjunt Singh, one of the injured. Till now no arrest has been made in the case.

Shop owner shot at
Unidentified people opened fire at Gurmeet Singh, the owner of a sweetmeat shop in Dhuri Lines area and a resident of Jammu Colony, late on Saturday. The victim has been hospitalised with bullet injuries in the legs. Gurmeet was outside a shrine when the assailants, travelling in a car, opened fire at him. Till the filing of the report no case was registered as Gurmeet was yet not in a position to record his statement.
