On the lines of sting operations conducted by news channels, the city police busted a sex racket being run at the LIG flats of Sector-32 at Chandigarh Road.

The police arrested seven accused, including five women from the brothel that was being run in the flat.
The accused have been identified as Pammi, Seema, Sonia, Chandna, Poonam and Mahinder Singh of Patiala and Pawandeep of Subhash Nagar of Ludhiana.

The police sent a decoy customer to the brothel, following a tip-off. Pammi, the kingpin of the brothel demanded Rs. 500 from the decoy customer who promised to come at night.

Receiving a signal from the decoy, police raided the brothel and arrested five women along with two customers.

Inspector Raj Kumar, SHO at police station division number 7, who headed the police party that conducted the raid, said a case under sections 3, 4, 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act 1956, has been registered against the accused.

The girls arrested from the brothel belong to neighbouring areas. Pammi used to call them following the customer demand. Four women including Pammi arrested from the brothel were married, while one is unmarried.
The arrested women said they indulged in the flesh trade due to their weak economic conditions.
