Employees of PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) office in Ludhiana, on Wednesday, decided not to send female clerks on buses as conductors.

The action committee of PRTC took this decision after 51 women employees went on strike on June 16 at the PRTC office in Patiala.

A PRTC official said, "Female clerks were asked to board buses at various depot routes in the state as conductors. Women who are genuinely interested to work as bus conductors should be given the opportunity to do so but it cannot be made mandatory for all female employees of the corporation."

Officials also said they have adopted a tough stance against this mandate and would not allow their female clerks to board buses as conductors.

One of the female clerks at the PRTC office in Ludhiana, said, "I was appointed nine years back and have had the same work profile since, but now all of a sudden, I have been asked to board buses and work as a conductor. I oppose this move by the authorities and will discontinue my services if the decision is not reversed."

Teachers need to shape students as nation builders, says Kalam

Creativity is the key to success in the future, and primary education is where teachers can bring creativity in children at that level. A great teacher is one who will improve the level of students who are poor in studies. This was stated by former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at Satya Bharti Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Sherpur Kalan, Ludhiana, on Friday.
