The newly-built hostel at Panjab University regional centre near Fountain Chowk was inaugurated on Friday. PU vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover inaugurated the building of Annie Besant girls' hostel and a moot court for providing a real environment to the law students for practicing.

On the occasion, Grover said there was a need to add new e-books and journals in the regional centre's extension library so as to make it hi-tech.Talking to Hindustan Times, Arun Kumar Grover, said, “I think more focus should be given to the research work. For the progress in research, colleges should come together and exchange their research ideas.”

He said the new hostel at PU regional centre would be functional by next month. When asked that Panjab University had shifted BCom, MCom and MSc from self-financed courses to main courses due to which colleges were finding it difficult to run these courses, as they had to pay the salaries according to the PU norms.

In reply to this, Grover said it was not my decision, but the decision was taken in the syndicate meeting and if any college was facing any problem than they could raise the issue in the next syndicate meeting.

Aniie Besant girls' hostel warden Neelam Batra said, “There will be 18 rooms in which 35-40 students can be accommodated. Moreover, our focus is not on quantity but quality. So we will provide facilities, including wi-fi, mess, common room, and attached bathrooms. The registration process has already started and the hostel will be functional by next month.”
