In this case, it is not only the man who is a top official but even his wife is a senior official of the MC, leading other officials of the civic body to get busy in renovating and revamping a quarter for zonal commissioner (Zone A ) Sumeet Kumar Jarangal and his wife Isha Kalia, the zonal commissioner of zone D.

The MC constructed the house situated at a colony on Club Road near the Durga Mata Mandir nearly 30 years ago and many officials lived in it till 2011.

The last officer to live in it was Ashok Bajaj, joint commissioner and legal advisor to the MC.
A source said the MC was going to spend Rs. 7.8 lakh on the renovation of the house, which has been in a dilapidated condition since 2011.

Sources said no construction had taken place in the house for nine years. “The house is 30 years old and is lying in a rundown condition. Rs. 7.80 lakh has been approved for its renovation,” an MC official, who did nort wish to be named, said.

Officials are leaving no stone unturned and the entire floor of the house will be replaced with tiles. An order for new taps and other essential items has also been placed, the official added.

“A new coat of paint would also be applied. There was seepage on some walls that has been
taken care,” the official said, adding that the height of the compound wall of the house had also been increased.

The locality where the house is situated is very close to the Durga Mata Mandir., which is visited by several devotees. The husband-wife duo, another official who did not wish to be named said, had been making rounds of the house whenever they got time from work. “They take a look of the premises and direct officials working on the house to make changes,” the official said.

The house being used by an IAS officer couple has come as good news for neighbours. Vipin Sood, president, Club Road Welfare Association, said that coming of MC officials would improve the locality's condition. “It will facilitate developmental,” he said.
