Rare honour for Ludhiana couple

In a rare honour, a Ludhiana-based couple has been nominated to the post of honorary mayor president of Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana State, USA, for distinguished achievements in their respective fields.


Bharat Bir Singh Sobti, an advocate in the Punjab and Haryana high court, and his wife Dr Praveen C Sobti, a doctor, were bestowed with the honour on August 31 by Baton Rouge mayor president Melvin L Kip Holden.

While Bharat Bir has served as senior additional advocate general of Punjab, Dr Praveen is a professor in the department of paediatrics, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. She had previously been honoured with a parman patra and woman of the year award for her efforts in treating blood disorders and cancers in children.
