The police claim to have solved the case with the arrest of six persons, including the relative of the victim, Gurwinder Singh alias Sweety.

Rs 7 lakh in cash, a gold ring, artificial jewellery and a laptop have been recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Vinay Kumar, Ram Parsad, Monu Kumar and Sonu Kumar, all residents of Partap Singh Wala of Hambran Road; and Paramjit Singh of Basant Avenue and Sooraj Kumar of Rishi Nagar. Besides, a country made pistol that the accused had used in the robbery has also been recovered.

Giving details of the case, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Nilambari Vijay Jagdale said Paramjit knew that Gurwinder had kept `15 lakh in cash at his house that he had earned from a land deal. Therefore, he hatched a conspiracy to loot the money. On July 18, Vinay, Ram, Monu and Sonu entered the house, while Paramjit and Suraj were in contact with them over phone. When Gurwinder's wife denied having any cash in the house, the accused called Paramjit to confirm if they had struck at the right house, she added.

Claiming that the accused had confessed to their crime, the DCP said the police were trying to recover the rest of the looted amount.

Jagdale added, “Paramjit Singh had access to Gurwinder's house. Days before the robbery, he entered the house and clicked pictures with his phone camera to give his accomplices an idea about the rooms. He then forwarded the pictures to his accomplices using Whatsapp. Police have found the conversation and pictures from the mobile phones of the accused.”

Paramjit had also told his accomplices to execute the robbery during day time when Gurwinder was away and his wife would be alone at home, the DCP added.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is already registered against the accused at Sadar police station.
