Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS), Sarabha Nagar, is up in arms over the location of an MC garbage dump that neighbours it. School principal Mona Singh said the garbage dump was located right next to the school and had become a nuisance in the area because of the stench emanating from it.

A truck of A to Z Company, which is in a contract with the municipal corporation (MC) for collection and disposal of garbage, hit the boundary wall of the school while reversing, making the boundary wall fall. Mona Singh said this was the third time such an incident had taken place. The school, however, did not file a police complaint.

She said that despite several complaints made by the school, the MC had not shifted the dump. Contacted, MC joint commissioner AS Sekhon said they were scouting for a new location. “We are making efforts to shift it. An official has been assigned the tasked to find a suitable place for shifting the dump.”  However, Mona Singh said the situation near the school was bad.

“It is monsoon; the stench gets stronger when it rains.”

Contacted, BPS Chauhan, vice-president of A to Z Company, said he did not know about the incident.
