Teachers of the Government High School, Sunet, Kapurthala district, on Tuesday demanded that the two social studies teachers and the headmistress of the school, who were suspended following the alleged rape of 12-year-old girl, be reinstated immediately. They also expressed their resentment over the school management's recent move of replacing one of the suspended teachers, Parvindar Kaur, and submitted a memorandum containing their demands to district education officer Paramjit Kaur Chahal.
A teacher, on condition of anonymity, said, "The teacher who was suspended by the authorities is innocent. How can authorities replace her? If the authorities do not reinstate the two teachers and the headmistress of the school, then we will hold a protest on July 23."
Chahal, when contacted on Tuesday, "We are just following the orders of the higher authorities, which said that a social studies teacher from Kapurthala had joined the Government High School in Sunet today."
The two teachers and the headmistress were suspended on July 9 after a protest was led by parents of 12-year-old student, who was allegedly raped by a 13-year-old boy on the school campus on July 5.
