Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) director of extension education HS Dhaliwal said that there had been some reports of foot rot disease in PUSA Punjab Basmati-1509 in Kotla Bharhi, Barwali Kalan and Kakrala villages in Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib.
He said the reason behind the food rot was that farmers in these villages had planted the crop in June and could not treat seed and seedlings with Bavistin.
He added that foot rot disease was caused by fungus. "In the early transplanted crop, there were more chances of the disease."
He has advised farmers to transplant PUSA Punjab Basmati-1509 after July 15.
