Social campaign on eco-friendly diwali held

Vmad (v making a difference), a Ludhiana-based transformation organisation organised a social campaign on the topic 'Safe and eco-friendly diwali' at Sarabha Nagar market and Baba Deep Singh Chowk, Ludhiana on Sunday evening.

More than 50 youth volunteers and young kids participated in the event. Little kids were seen in fancy dresses during the awareness talk. They shared a pamphlet with them, which included the death tally due to firecrackers during diwali and some photographs of injured ones.

Talking about the money wasted on crackers, one of the volunteers said we are wasting our precious money and environment just for the sake of fun which is really going to affect our future generation.

The event was led by young Manveer singh, Pavneet singh, Gauravdeep singh. Other participants were Jaiveer singh, Arshpreet singh, Savit dutta, Navkaran singh, stuti garg and Jasveer singh.

Jatinderpal Singh, MD of Vmad said, "The only way to create a magic is to make people present about the future. We can do something big for our mother earth if we stop using firecrackers. "

"Our leaders will create a wonderful future for all Ludhianvis" he added.

Elections make addicts overstay at Punjab rehabilitation centres

Fearing free distribution of drugs and liquor during elections, the families of drug addicts are prolonging their stay at various de-addiction, counselling and rehabilitation centres across the state. Various addicts undergoing counselling a nd rehabilita-tion programmes at centres in Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, Ferozepur and Nakodar despite having completed their courses have extended their stay by 30-45 days.
