However, fearing police action, the accused, Jatinder Pal Singh, abandoned the victim, Amandeep Singh, at
Kathgarh village of Nawanshahr and fled. The police recovered the boy and handed him over to the family on Tuesday.

In her complaint, the woman, whose name has been concealed by the police, submitted that she had an affair with Jatinder Pal. However, his family was against their marriage, so he hatched a conspiracy and made his maternal uncle marry her around two months ago.

"But, I eloped with Jatinder Pal after two days of marriage. We then lived together for around one month in Phagwara. When I asked him to marry me, he refused, following which I left him and returned to Ludhiana," the woman alleged.

She alleged that however, Jatinder kept pestering her to live with him, and when she refused, he kidnapped her brother on Sunday night.

Inspector Gurdev Singh, station house officer (SHO), Model Town police station, said the police initiated investigation after lodging a case of kidnapping against the Jatinder Pal and his aides. Sensing police action, the accused left the abducted boy at Kathgarh village on Tuesday and fled.

The SHO said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the accused.
