Two held with 28 boxes of illicit liquor

The anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing of the local police has arrested two persons after recovering 28 boxes of illicit liquor from their possession in separate cases.


The accused were transporting the liquor in cars, which have been impounded by the police.

In the first case, according to sub-inspector Harbans Singh, SHO, Dehlon police station, who is also incharge of anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing, the police set up a naka at Kaind Canal Bridge on Saturday.

The police intercepted a car driven by Lakhwinder Singh alias Gona of Bhattiyan bet area of Ludhiana. While frisking the vehicle, the police recovered 20 boxes of illicit liquor from it. The police arrested the accused and registered a case against him at the Dehlon police station. The accused admitted that he used to smuggle liquor from other districts and used to sell it in Ludhiana. According to th SHO, the accused is already facing trial in similar cases.

In a similar case, the police arrested Balvir Singh of Santokh Nagar of Phillaur after recovering eight boxes of illicit liquor from his car. The accused was arrested from Kailash Nagar on GT Road on Saturday. A case has been registered against him at Basti Jodhewal police station.
