A woman, already serving a life imprisonment term for her niece's murder, was arrested for allegedly peddling opium on Saturday.
The arrest came following a tip-off by three men who were found carrying three-kg opium on Friday. The accused - Arjun Paswan, Girjesh Das and Jatin Kumar-had informed the police that they were going to deliver the drug contraband to the woman, Soma, 45.
Soma, a resident of Mangat village near here, had come out on bail three months ago. Inspector Gurbans Singh Bains, in-charge of CIA staff 2, said the police had arrested the three men from Seera village following a tip-off on Friday.
The accused had claimed that they had procured the opium from Jharkhand and Biha and were about to deliver the drug contraband to Soma in Mangat village.
Following this, the police arrested Soma on Saturday. Inspector Bains said the accused travelled to Ludhiana from Bihar by train. He said Soma was serving life imprisonment for her niece's murder through contract killers nearly five years ago.
Inspector Bains said the recovered opium was worth Rs. 3 lakh.
