The Salem Tabri police claimed to solved a two-month-old murder case of an elderly woman with the arrest of her daughter-in-law.
Mohinder Kaur, 60, of Bajigar Basti in Salem Tabri had been found brutally murdered on May 4. The police on Monday arrested victim's daughter-in-law Amarjit Kaur on the charge of murder. The police have also seized a wooden stick from her possession, besides Rs. 1 lakh in cash. The cash was hidden in the mattresses and she had spent Rs. 32,000 of the total money she had laid her hands at after killing her mother-in-law.
As per the police, the accused had confessed to having killed her mother-in-law for money. The police, however, given a clean chit to Amarjit's husband.
Mohinder was alone at homes when she was murdered. Her other daughter-in-law, Kulwinder Kaur, had gone to visit a doctor, along with her son and daughter.
It was Kulwinder who had informed the police about the murder around 1.30 pm on May 4. Salem Tabri station house officer inspector Dharampal said from day one the police were suspecting the role of some acquaintance in the crime and later zeroed in on Amarjit, who spilled the beans when detained for questioning.
