The veteran actor Zohra Sehgal, the grand old lady of Bollywood, passed away on Thursday. She might have left the world forever but her fans from all generations would always remember her amazing theatre performances and films that left the mark on the world.

As the news of her death broke out in the media, her fans from all strata of society, through the social networking websites, expressed their condolences and remembered the tremendous work of the veteran actor.

Jatinder Brar, playwright and owner of prestigious Punjab Naatshala, a theatre group based in Amritsar, remembers Zohra’s live performance with her younger sister Uzra Butt in 2004.

“Both the sisters gave a touching performance on an emotional and inspiring play “Ek Thee Naani”.

They also interacted with theatre artistes and the audience after the performance. The local artists, who had shared the stage with them, also felt proud to see two marvellous artistes performing with them,” added Brar.

Bollywood actress Zareen Khan also posted some of the rare pictures of Sehgal-which have got thousands of likes and numerous comments on social networking websites-including pictures her younger days, which is a testimony of her spellbinding career and zestful attitude towards life.

Noted theatre and film actor Pavan Malhotra, who played a famous role of a Sikh army coach in movie “Bhag Milka Bhag” said, “Some people live their life to the fullest and Zohraji was one of them. She set an example for all that age is just a number; it is your passion that counts. Had I got a chance to work with her, I would have considered myself lucky,” expressed Malhotra, adding reading her interviews had always made him feel lively and positive.

Ludhiana based writer Kewal Dhir remembers the evening he was sitting beside Zohra in New Delhi.
He shares, “I got a chance to meet her a few years ago when was probably in her late nineties. As I was feeling a bit shy to open up, Zohra, with a smile on her face, told to me it’s always better to keep shyness in pocket.”

Several other Bollywood actors, including megastar Amitabh Bachchan who worked with Zohra in many prominent films, tweeted, “Zohra Sehgal… she epitomised life, living and its zest...a spirit that could shame a teenager, and a smile that lit up”.
