Punjab industries and commerce minister Madan Mohan Mittal on Friday urged the Union government to expedite the process of getting a clearance certificate from the ministry of environment and forests to resolve the shortage of sand and gravel in all states.
Mittal was speaking at the national meet of ministers in-charge of the mining department held under the chairmanship of the Union steel and mines minister Narendra Singh Tomar at Jaipur. The meet was convened to discuss the key issues pertaining to the mining sector.
Mittal said the Punjab government was ensuring that sand and gravel was available to people at reasonable rates for which it had already introduced the reverse auction procedure and had successfully maintained rates in the recent past. He added that it was a need of the hour to decentralise the procedure of mining-related work in the country in order to get the issues resolved swiftly in the larger public interest.
