The local police on Saturday claimed to have arrested the kingpin in the high-profile murder case of local youth Congress leader Amarinder Singh (Ricky Dullet) last year.
The accused has been identified as Jatinder Singh alias Goldy, a resident of village Bhalwan near here.
Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused near Nankianwali Chowk, while he was coming to Sangrur.
The police also seized 315-bore pistol along with 13 live cartridges from him.
Dullet, the organising secretary of district Youth Congress, was murdered on November 13 last year near an over-bridge on Dhuri road in Sangrur when he was travelling with his mother Rajinder Kaur.
Dullet was allegedly thrashed and shot by unidentified youths over property dispute.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harcharan Singh Bhullar said the accused, during interrogation, has confessed to being with the other accused at the time of crime.
Dullet was said to be close to Capt Amarinder Singh's confidant Arvind Khanna.
Earlier, the police arrested three persons - Sukhwinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Sultan Singh - for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Former deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kuldeep Sharma; then SHO city, Surinder Bhalla and Amanvir Singh Cherry, who is said be a close associate of finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, were also booked in the murder case.
The inquiry regarding the involvement of the high and mighty in the case is still on.
