The magisterial inquiry ordered to probe the unfurling of Tricolour upside down by revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia during the Independence Day function in Amritsar has found cops guilty of negligence.

Amritsar deputy commissioner (DC) Ravi Bhagat said: "The inquiry by additional deputy commissioner TP Singh has found an inspector and an assistant-sub inspector (ASI) guilty of negligence. Precautions were not taken while tying the national flag with a rope. The report will be sent to the police department for action."

Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Aulakh had suspended inspector Gurmukh Singh and ASI Varinder Singh immediately after the incident. Both the police commissioner and the DC had apologised for the faux pas and even condemned it.

The minister, who was also left embarrassed, had cautioned the officials for being careful in future. The minister had also stated that he had attended many functions but had not seen such a lapse.
