Bikram Singh Majithia, minister for new and renewable energy, will inaugurate a solar power plant in Boha village in Mansa district on Wednesday. The plant has been set up by the Gujarat-based company M/s Madhav Solar Pvt Ltd.
The plant, which promises to provide nearly 4 mw of solar power to the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) claims to be better than the existing thermal power plant in Talwandi Sao.
"We have faced no such issues of land acquisition and waste disposal as other power plants faced before setting up the plant. We are using a non-renewable source of energy, which has least harmful effects. There is no issue of waste management as there will no residue or waste at the end of the day. We have even commissioned the power plant well before the set deadline of March 2015," said Amit Sharma, senior manager (project).
The plant will supply power directly to the powergrid in the Boha village. "We will resolve the power crisis which has plagued the region. Moreover, more than 80% of our employees belong to Mansa district," said one of the member of the plant management.
This project has been set up in 21 acres and will generate 6 million units of power annually.
