Makdoli toll tax row: Protesters block Rohtak-Panipat highway for three hours

Demanding free passage for locals on the Rohtak-Panipat highway, members of Toll Bachao Sangrash Samiti (TBSS) gheraoed the Makdoli toll plaza here for three hours on Sunday.


The protest was organsied even though Sadhav, the company managing the toll plaza, had on Saturday reduced charges for non-commercial vehicles registered within a 20-km radius of the toll plaza, to `100 a month for a pass basis.

In anticipation of the protest, heavy police force had been deployed near the toll plaza. The, nonetheless, inconvenienced commuters, and roadways buses and vehicles had to take a detour.

The protesters reached the toll plaza near Madkoli village at 11am and lined up their vehicles on either side of the toll plaza. The blockade was lifted around 2.30pm, following an assurance by Sadhav that it would reconsider their demand.

The protesters are demanding exemption of toll tax for commercial and non-commercial vehicles within a 25-km radius, identity cards to ensure inconvenience, and construction of service lanes for residents of nearby villages for unobstructed movement of vehicles.
