Makkar affirms SGPC's stand on Blue Star Memorial in Amritsar

Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee President Avtar Singh Makkar on Sunday reaffirmed his decision of constructing the Operation Blue Star Memorial in Amritsar.



Makkar who was in Kapurthala to inaugurate the landscaping done by gurdwara management for constructing strolling space for the residents here, said this while talking to the media persons.

Answering to a query on the legal notices by an Amritsar based Rights organisation, planning to file a PIL at Punjab and Haryana High court, challenging the use of word 'martyr' for those who were killed during the operation, Makkar said that, "It was the decision taken by SGPC after lot of deliberations. It is going to be built and no one can stop it. When the heroics of any particular community are highlighted how can it disturb the peace of the state?"

Those who had been apprehending the disturbance and revival of militancy are merely politicising the issues, he added.

He also declared opening of a charitable hospital in the district on this occasion and also allocated Rs. 51 lakhs from SGPC for the same.
