A day after former chief minister and Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh backed the formation of a separate gurdwara body for Haryana, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Avtar Singh Makkar on Monday reacted sharply and said Amarinder’s real intention towards the SGPC have come to the fore.
In a release, Makkar slammed Amarinder for making such a demand. “Both Capt Amarinder Singh and former DSGMC chief Paramjit Singh Sarna seem to be in more hurry than the Haryana government led by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on the formation of a separate body for Haryana,” he said.
Amarinder’s intentions are clear, Makkar said, adding that he just wants to weaken the SGPC and is not bothered about the sacrifices Sikhs have made for the formation of the SGPC.
“Capt Amarinder Singh has nothing to do with Sikhs because he is the leader of the same Congress whose members were involved in anti-Sikh riots in 1984,” Makkar said.
On Sunday, Amarinder had supported the creation of a separate gurdwara body for Haryana. The Amritsar MP had also slammed chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and accused him of running the SGPC through remote control.
