Inspector general (IG),Hisar, Anil Rao made a startling revelation in the sex determination test racket by stating that the accused were fooling their clients, who aspired for a male child, with vibrating machines like phones as they had no ultrasound machine to determine the sex. The racket was busted last Saturday by a specially constituted team in association with the city police.
"During our investigation, one of the four accused, Praveen, revealed that for the fifteen tests he conducted during the last two months at various places in Hisar, he had no ultrasound machine," IG Rao said.
"Only the female who was to be tested was allowed to enter the room, blindfolded. Praveen would then use vibrating devises like a mobile phone so that the patient felt that she was being tested. Later, the results were revealed in accordance to the emotional level of the family," he added.
SEX DETERMINED AS PER EMOTIONAL STATUS
The offenders used to make an assessment of their client's emotional situation.
"If a client just wanted to know the gender but was not keen on having a male child, Praveen would declare that they were having a boy. However, if during their assessment Praveen found out that their client would go in for an abortion if they were having a girl, then he would declare the unborn child to be a girl. He would later offer abortion services too," Special task force (STF) inspector Jeet Singh Beniwal, who was a part of operation, said.
Praveen revealed that during last two months, he conducted 15 sex determination tests, out of which nine were done at hotel Aashiyana and six were done at a rented place in Sundernagar. He would charge `15,000- 20,000 per test.
According to police, Praveen also accepted that after doing the fake test of a female named Deepika from district Fatehabad, he also organised her abortion at Anantram Medical Centre (AMC) in Chudamani Hospital, Hisar, twenty days before his arrest. However, Praveen claims that the abortion was conducted by Dharmendra. The four main accused in the case - Praveen, Dharmender, Jaiveer, and Satish - have been arrested.
While Dharmender and Praveen are working as compounders here at Anantram Medical Centre (AMC) in Chudamani Hospital Hisar from last 10 years and one and half years respectively, Jaiveer and Satish worked at Aastha Hospital in Sirsa.
The main job of Jaiveer and Satish was to get the clients.
Deepika confesses of aboration at AMC
Deepika who was recovered from district Fatehabad was produced before session's court under CrPc 164 on Sunday where she gave witness that Praveen, Dharmender and Jaiveer took her to Biwani first to get tested.
However, for some reasons she was told to come to Hisar and she was tested in a hotel Aashiyana in Hisar, where she was told that she had a girl.
According to her the offenders offered the option of abortion which was done on the same evening at AMC, but the fetus was by the Dharmender and his associates.
The case with each passing day is unraveling new details and as per police many people are expected to be questioned in next few days to catch the last offender.
Praveen says Dharmender is kingpin
Police are applying for re-remand of five days of Dharmender. He after his arrest had said to the police that he was only getting clients for Praveen as it was the latter who was the main man behind the show.
However after police arrested Praveen three days later on last Tuesday during his questioning he revealed that he it was Dharmender who was actually running the racket for quite some time.
"Only two months back he told Praveen that things are getting strict so he cannot do it anymore. However, clients were coming to hospital therefore, Praveen took charge and asked Dharmender to direct clients to him as he has lined up a doctor for this purpose now," IG Hisar range, Anil Roa said.
Since Dharmender has been working at AMC for last 10 years and according to Praveen he has been doing it for long, therefore, police does not rule out the figure of 350 tests conducted by the duo.
"From our recent investigation we have found out that Dharmender was trying to misguide us. However, now we have more inputs and more information about his background, therefore, we would like to reexamine him. So we will be asking for his re-remand on Tuesday," IG Roa said.
Praveen today was again taken on re-remand till July 9.
