A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abducting and raping his 16-year-old neighbour in his rented accommodation in New Chander Nagar area.

The accused has been identified as Bapi Pohiya alias Gautam Bangali.

In her complaint, the victim's mother submitted that she, along with her family, had gone to attend a function, while her 16-year-old daughter stayed back at home.

When the family returned, they could not find the teenager home and initiated a search. Meanwhile, they heard the girl's cries coming from their neighbour's house.

When she, along with the landlord, went inside, she was shocked to see her daughter lying in a bathroom. The victim then revealed that Pohiya had barged into her house and kidnapped her, before taking her to his house and raping her. He then fled the scene.

Inspector Davinder Singh, station house office (SHO), Division Number 4 police station, said the accused had been arrested and booked under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 4 and 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
